April is Autism Awareness Month, so I will be doing a manicure for Autism Awareness for today and blue manicures for the remainder of April. 

For a long time, many people didn't even know what Autism was, so awareness is the first step. I myself do not have anyone in my family that has Autism, but I have friends that have Autistic children, so I wanted to join in to help spread awareness.

I followed this video tutorial on Youtube that can be found HERE. I have to say I enjoyed doing these so much. They are time consuming, but so worth it in the end. I'll be wearing these to work tomorrow as well.

Colors I used:

China Glaze - Happy Go Lucky (Yellow)

Sation - Board Girl Blue (Dark Blue)

Sation - Hot 4 Teacher (Red) 

Sation - Jock Juggler (Light Blue) 

I used regular Scotch tape for making my squares, and a dotting tool to make the circles.

My regular readers also know how obsessed I am with Matte Top Coat, so of course I used that to finish things off.

I was a bit skeptical about nail stickers that weren't water decals, but I wanted to give them a fair try. I can not do my own free hand nail art, so items like this offer me the chance to do something different. I combined these with Lime Crime polishes that I won on Lime Crime's Facebook Page several months back. Here are the Lime Crime polishes I used...

I first tried my design with Seche Vite Top Coat. Check out the sparkle in the stickers! One nice feature of the stickers is they are 3 dimensional. They are not completely flat, and that added definition really makes them look cute.

It wasn't bad over all, but it wasn't how I envisioned it either. I did like it shiny, but then I decided to try a matte finish instead.

    The result once the Matte Top Coat was added was over the top GORGEOUS!!! I added the Matte Top Coat right over the stickers and it didn't damage them at all. The Matte Top Coat also brought out the sparkle in the stickers, you can see that on the flower that is on my ring finger.

I have to say I really liked these stickers. I didn't think I would, and I was so wrong.

One of my fears was that the stickers would lift, but once you applied them  there was no moving them. I did try to reposition one, and it was really difficult to remove, and I ended up damaging the sticker. They are meant to stay in place once they are placed. I washed my hands several times and had them on for the day and so far nothing has moved. I'm impressed so far. (EDIT: I can really not comment on wearability with these. I never wear my polish long enough to be able to give a fair opinion of wearability, I do my best and can only relay wearability for the time I have on the product) .

I took a ton of pictures because I was so pleased with how they came out. They came out even better than I had pictured them in my head when I first planned them.

I would definitely recommend these stickers. I was very pleased with the results.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Today I have a fun post. I did some long anticipated stamping! Yes, you heard me correctly.....I stamped! 

I used Zoya Sharon and Maya Cosmetics Envy. Both polishes were the perfect colors for St. Patrick's Day. I added in some striping tape and rhinestones, and came up with this design :)

The Zoya Sharon is a Limited Edition polish that Zoya was kind enough to include in a recent promo. The Promo: When you made a purchase of 20$ or more, you received Sharon as a free gift! How amazing is Zoya for offering this?!  This is now my new favorite orange. Orange polishes, similar to yellow, tend to be thick and difficult to apply. This orange was not at all like most of my others. This formula on Sharon was very easy to work with, was not clumpy or streaky. I will be using this as my go to orange from here on out. You will be seeing this again here at ThePolishHoochie.

The Maya Cosmetics Envy is a new release. This formula was on the thick side. It is so packed full of glitters, it causes it to be extremely thick. I did not thin this polish and wish I had. It's has beautiful sparkle and is unique in my collection. Even thought it was thick (which I know is fixable) I really love the look of it overall. This is a keeper for me.

The stamping plate I used is an older no frills plate that was included in a set of 6 plates. I purchased the set HERE. The set now sells for UNDER 5$ USD. I recently ordered all three sets of Bundle Monster plates, so I figured I better start stamping. This is the first time I have stamped in over a year (maybe longer).

I usually do not do these type of manicures, so I thought it would be fun for St. Patrick's Day.

I used striping tape from THE BORN PRETTY STORE for my middle finger, I was going for a plaid look. I'm pleased with how it came out.

I was really excited and decided I was going to dive right in and do a striping manicure!!! I thought about it and had no ideas, but last week while I was lurking around the MakeupAlley Nail Board I ran into a post by nrohloff that was AMAZING, she is brilliant for this idea. Manicure gone Wild

Hi Guys,  today I have a manicure gone wild -or- more like a manicure fail on my hands. I have another party tomorrow, and this time my outfit is orange and turquoise colored. I planned it all out in my head (it really looked so pretty there lol).  

I used 3 different polish for this - China Glaze For Audrey, Tip Toe Orangentina and Wet n Wild White. I purchased the Tip Toe polish at Old Navy.

I decided to do some nail art. Now do you guys see where this is going? For my regular readers you all KNOW I can not do nail art to save my life lol.

This is what I ended up with.

I started with 3 coats of China Glaze's for Audrey. I then added an accent nail in Tip Toe Orangentina on my ring finger. To this point everything is going well in this manicure. I then decided to add dots. I have never did a doticure before, so this was my first attempt. I added my first layer of dots in China Glaze's for Audrey and then a second layer in Wet n Wild White. 

This is where it all went wrong. If you look closely above in my first picture the first layer of dots look green and the second layer of dots look yellow. This was not even close to the gorgeous picture in my head lol. I believe I rushed things too much and did not give each layer time to fully dry, so instead the colors blended together. 

The manicure still looks fun so I'm going to wear it to my party. I don't think anyone will notice about the off color dots on my nails. The odd part is in some lighting they do look white, and in other lighting I see yellow.

Next time I will allow the layers to dry better. I am not giving up on this doticure thing lol. I'm determined to get it right next go around.

Cirque de Soleil Nails!

I'm so excited about tonight nails. I have been sick for several weeks, and I am finally feeling better. To celebrate Kelly got us Cirque de Soleil tickets!!! We are going to see Quidam. We really didn't get to go out for Valentine's Day - so this is just perfect. 

Well soon as I found out, I went a searching online to see what the theme of our show would be. I found this picture that I used for inspiration. 

I wasn't sure which direction to go, as I seriously stink at nail art lol.  In the picture above is Target, one of the main characters. If you look closely at his outfit it is white and teal with red accents. I came up with this ...

The Base color is ManGlaze Mayo and Sally's Insta-Dri Sea Breaze. I used scotch tape to do the checkered pattern. The lines are nothing to brag about, but I'm happy with it :)

This is the top I'm wearing, so I figured the nails would be perfect for that. I was going for a circus look.

FUN FUN!!! I can not wait to go now lol.

Untried No.7 - Wet n Wild Night Prowl & Checkered Tape Mani!

I'm a little early with my Untried Saturday this week :) I used Wet n Wild Night Prowl for this one, which is GORGEOUS in every way. I can't believe I had this one sitting for so long.

I decided to try a checkered tape mani today. I have been wanting to try this for awhile and I finally got to it! It's no where near perfect, but for my first time I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I started out with night Prowl as my Base color.

I then taped off one half of the nail using Scotch Tape and added Milani Digital until I got this...

After that I added a layer of SV and waited 15 minutes, and then finished it off and taped off the other half of the nail.  This is the final result.

I love it!
